A Barrel of Flour A STORY told to Jireh & Frank by their grandmother Elizabeth Gillingham. There was a lady in town who didn’t think the recent barrel of Gillingham’s flour delivered to her home was any good. Her cakes were flat and her bread wouldn’t rise at all and it must be the flours fault; and she went back to F.H. to complain about it. Since his word was as good as a Government Bond he took back the offending barrel and delivered her another. She thought the new barrel was terrific, her cakes weren't flat and her bread rose first rate, until she got to the bottom and found her own measuring cup there. F.H. had simply turned the barrel over and nailed a new top on its former bottom. The lady among other things luckily had a good sense of humor, and when she came back into the store they all had a good laugh. FH Gillingham & Sons is awarded a Vermont Centennial Business Award
